The Merger

A green-and-orange chameleon perches on a slender branch among pale leaves against a deep purple background.

The Merger is a post-apartheid humorous murder mystery, set in Algoa Bay, at the time when formerly segregated institutions began the difficult merger process. Everyone welcomed the change  except for those few who exploited it. The story grew out of historical research into a little-known episode in the life of Josef Korzeniowski, later known as the writer Joseph Conrad. The apparently minute beating of the butterfly wings of those days long-forgotten have a reverberating influence on everyone involved in the merger, leading to revelations, comedy, and finally, murder.
