The Merger is a post-apartheid humorous murder mystery, set in Algoa Bay, at the time when formerly segregated institutions began the difficult merger process. Everyone welcomed the change – except for those few who exploited it. The story grew out of historical research into a little-known episode in the life of Josef Korzeniowski, later known as the writer Joseph Conrad. The apparently minute beating of the butterfly wings of those days long-forgotten have a reverberating influence on everyone involved in the merger, leading to revelations, comedy, and finally, murder.
